Blessings in a Backpack

In its 40th year of business in Adrian, Yoss Thriftway once again embraces the opportunity to lend a helping hand, to make a difference in the lives of children. In December, 2012, Yoss Thriftway made a pledge to donate food to help feed children in Adrian who might not otherwise have anything to eat.

Throughout the month of December, every time a customer came through the checkout wearing a 40th Anniversary t-shirt, a donation was made to the Blessings in a Backpack program. This program provides chronically hungry children in Adrian with nutritious, child-friendly, easy-to-prepare food in backpacks to take home over the weekends and when school is not in session. Thriftway customers jumped aboard the effort to feed hungry children and made monetary donations as well. With the generosity of Yoss Thriftway and its customers, 347 families will be fed from this donation drive.

As a Christian, 501(c)3 project, the Blessings in a Backpack Food Program helps provide nutrition, ease the children’s anxiety, reduce absenteeism, improve attention span at school, raise academic performance and increase self-esteem. The program is supported by area civic groups, churches, businesses, individuals and other groups.
