Water line replacement begins in Adrian

The City of Adrian has been committed to replacing water lines since 2001. Details have been explored and mapped, but funding kept the project from seeing completion. Thanks to 100% financing (50% loan, 50% grant) through the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009, Akins Excavating (East Lynne, MO) was issued a notice to proceed with water line replacement. Pictured above on Tuesday, February 16, Akins Excavating began replacing the lines at First and Kentucky Streets. Approximately 17,000 feet of water lines will be replaced in Adrian, which is about one-third of the town.
This Act also funds new meters for the entire town. They are more technological in nature, and can be read from City Hall and/or from the street. The days of crawling on the ground, opening up meter lids and writing down numbers is coming to an end. “We’re really excited for Adrian to have gotten a piece of the stimulus funding for this project,” said City Administrator Lori Williams.
