It was a misty morning as a crowd gathered at the Lt. Charles Garrison Veterans Memorial in Adrian on Saturday, May 28. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1935 presented its annual Memorial Day Services. A host of vocalists and speakers paid respects to those who have served and are serving in the United States military.

Post 1935 honors local veteran who was killed in action - United States Army Corporal Jacob Carver, a 2008 graduate of Cass Midway High School, was killed in action with two fellow comrades on November 13, 2010 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan when a suicide bomber detonated a vest bomb that struck his unit. During this year’s Memorial Day Service, VFW District 6 Commander Chris Hummel gave a poignant tribute in memory of Corporal Carver, who was a lead gunner for the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Divison (air assault), Screaming Eagles.
