Memorial Day 2010 (May 29) marks just the beginning of a tribute to Americans who have served, are serving, or will serve, in the United States military. Right here in Adrian, the unveiling of the Veterans Memorial is an awe-inspiring site that no one should miss. The VFW will be revealing its name and making a special dedication. There will be plenty of time to tour the Rock House, which is part of the Memorial that was built a long time ago to honor World War I and II veterans. Bricks of loved ones can be readily located with maps. And one of the strongest Memorial Day programs to date, full of outstanding speakers and some of the area’s most talented vocalists, has people from California, Iowa, and all over coming to this Memorial dedication. Memorial committee members Don Arndt and Steve Hubbard welcome everyone. “We would really like to see many people come to this dedication. The VFW wants to share this with everyone.” The VFW has a special ceremony planned.

The Veterans Memorial is a work in progress, a never-ending tribute to American veterans. Donations are accepted, and will help with the progress of the Memorial. With additional funds, the VFW plans to add more sidewalk and more concrete for 12-foot steps. With about $3,000, a bronze statue of a soldier will be added to the Memorial. Another hope for the Memorial, made possible with generous donations, is a Civil War cannon.

Don’t miss the Memorial Day Service and Veterans Memorial Dedication at the Adrian City Park on May 29 at 10:00am. It’s an occasion for everyone of all ages, and a tribute that will long be remembered.

Note: In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved to Monday, May 31 at 10:00 a.m.
