Veterans install new flag pole

“When the pole went up and those guys raised the flag for the first time...it made me proud that I am privileged to be a part of a group of men (pictured far right) who worked to make this memorial a reality,” said Don Durbin, Commander of Adrian’s VFW Post 1935.
The flag pole was donated by Charlie Koehn and a lot of others, some who prefer to remain anonymous, have worked hard to make the memorial become a real, tangible honor for area veterans. Pictured right, the bobcat, operated by Mathew Newkirk, lifts the new flag pole at the Veterans Memorial as Stan Moore, Dick Essenpries and other veterans assist.
“It’s a good feeling to have seen the flag raised at the site,” said VFW member Steve Hubbard. “It means we’re making progress with the memorial for veterans. I always get a special feeling when a flag goes up, but this is special, too, because it’s one more step in the completion of our our memorial.”
