The volunteer firefighters have had a lot of additional training classes involving several agencies, including both the Adrian and Butler Fire Departments, the Butler and Adrian Police, the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and the Bates County EMS ambulance crew.
All the participants followed a scenario devised by Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney and a member of the Butler Fire Department, Jason Bennett.
“Part of the training was to see if the guys got it all together, that the two incidents were related,” said Chief Dizney, adding that both scenes gave all participants the opportunity to test skills, learn new ones and gave all agencies new insights in working together on mutual aid calls.
Chief Dizney extended appreciation for all who participated in the drill and to Chuck Talley, who allowed the use of the old trailer on the Talley Trailer Park property. Note: There was not an actual fire at the trailer. The smoke was manufactured by a machine.
“This is just one more bit of progress for the fire department,” Chief Dizney said. “We appreciate the city for working with us to get this training session completed.”
The Adrian Volunteer Fire Department will have other training sessions throughout the year in various locations in and around Adrian. Most will be during their regular training meetings and not all will be as extensive as was Monday’s drill.
