Theft and vandalism may be connected
Adrian Police Officers responded to several theft and vandalism calls last week, some of which may be connected to a suspect held in custody. Chief Chapman also has a warning for bicyclists and skateboarders on Main Street. Thursday, May 22, at 7:30 a.m., Chief Chapman was contacted by Randy Wimsatt about a fire in an unoccupied trailer at Rudy’s Trailer Park. Adrian Fire Department, Bates County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Fire Marshall also responded. According to Chapman, the cause of the fire was found to be arson. Also on Thursday, Chapman responded to 204 West Sixth Street and 208 West Sixth Street on reports of vandalism. Chapman also responded to 20 West Sixth for a report of a bicycle theft. Later that day, Chapman responded to Seventh and Lexington Street on report of theft from a semi. Officer Sellers continued the investigation and filed the report. Chapman then responded to 217 East Seventh Street on report of a theft from a vehicle and 220 East Seventh on report of a vehicle break-in. Chapman responded to the 400 block of Old 71 Highway (at the car wash), on a vandalism report of mud packed into the coin machines. Chapman then responded to 300 North Old 71 Highway (Bruce’s Mini Mart), on report of a burglary. Alcohol, candy and a small amount of coins were taken. Also on Thursday, Officer Sellers responded to the MoJo Carwash on report of theft from a coin machine. Chief Chapman said that the Police Department believes all the crimes that occurred in the early morning of May 22 are connected, and a suspect for these crimes is in custody. The suspect was issued a warrant from the courts for $60,000 cash only.
