The Adrian community bands together once again...

For late October, the weather on Halloween was ideal for the 730 trick-or-treaters who traveled up and down Main Street in Adrian. Led by the Adrian Lions Club and the Adrian Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and organizations provided a safe, well-lit place for area kids to trick-or-treat on October 31. “Sight and Safety Night was well attended again this year,” shared Lions Member Donita Ruch. “We are appreciative of the businesses and organizations who participated.”

Businesses spend their hard-earned money on treats for this special event, and their generosity is appreciated. Many business owners feel it is worthwhile for everyone. “Sight and Safety Night is good for the businesses, and it is safer for candy to come from businesses than door-to-door,” said Laverne Goodrich of Adrian Lanes. Lori Haskins, Vice President of Adrian Bank, shares her thoughts: “It’s really neat that all the merchants get together to sponsor this night for the kids.”

Sight and Safety Night started in 2004, thanks to the Adrian Lions Club. It continues to grow not only with the number of kids who attend, but with the increase of cell phone and eye glasses donations. The Lions Club donates the cell phones to battered women’s shelters so that they can be used for 911 services. The glasses are sent to the Lions eye bank.

Sight and Safety Night also keeps business in Adrian. Donita Ruch said, “The Lions Club purchases all of its candy for Sight and Safety Night from Yoss Thriftway. Everything is local, local, local.”

Erin Newport’s thoughts about Sight and Safety Night speak volumes about the Adrian community. “This is a great event for our small town that is loved and enjoyed by all!”
