Sheriff investigates dump site

A large amount of trash and possible hazardous materials was dumped at the intersection of Cemetery Road (CR1001) and Highway AA on Saturday, June 14 at approximately 8:30 p.m. According to Sgt. Phillips of the Bates County Sheriff’s Department, eight - five gallon buckets of paint, four of which were full, used paint brushes, a toilet, old electrical fixtures and assorted papers were dropped at the aforementioned location.

“Besides being an eyesore, there are harmful chemicals in the paint,” Phillips stated.

An eyewitness of the incident reported two vehicles and two adults involved. Reportedly, the perpetrators drove two full sized Chevrolets, one dark blue or black was driven by a white male driver and one teal and silver late-model was driven by a white female driver who was also transporting two children. After dumping the materials, the vehicles headed east toward 71 Highway and were not apprehended.
