On a picture-perfect day, 12 teams walked to help raise funds for cancer research at the Bates County 13th Annual Relay for Life. The relay began with a ceremonial walk by cancer survivors. People joined in contests, raffles, an auction and a little bit of everything to help the cause.

Thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses, Relay for Life raised $50,127.92. Their goal of $50,500 will be reached as a few corporate sponsors are sending in their contributions. Chairperson Shannon Barth of the MASH Relay for Life Team said, “We are amazed at how much small communities can bring things together to help others.”

At dusk, luminary services were held to honor and remember past, current and future warriors against cancer. This lighting ceremony pays tribute to those whose lives have been changed by cancer.
