R-3 Board to ask City for possible street direction changes around school
The Adrian R-3 Board of Education met in regular session, Thursday September 18, 2008. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m., in the Conference Room by President Jay Bagby. Board members present besides Bagby were: Steve Lewis, Tim Lovejoy, Jim Tenholder, Gary Tolle and Tom Underwood. Absent, Jacque Underwood.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and all visitors were welcomed.
A motion was made by Tenholder and seconded by Lewis to approve the Consent Agenda, which consists of the minutes to the August 24, 2008 Board meeting, the Cash Financial Summary/Revenue-Expenditures Summary, Warrant Reports and proposed agenda. All members present approved the motion, 6-0-1. J. Underwood, absent.
CTA Representative, Treva Smith, reported the Kindergarten classes prepared letters for Grandparents Day. The First graders welcomed a local veterinarian, Kathy Hunefeldt to their classrooms. The Second grade classes are working on their city projects. The Third graders are studying plants while the Fourth grade classes are working on their Missouri Day projects and planning a trip to Frontier Village. The Fifth grade classes have been learning about sea monkeys and the Sixth grade students are busy getting their Safety Patrol in place. The High School students are starting preparations for Homecoming. The Title I teachers have completed testing of the First grades and of new students. A new Sick Leave Committee has met and they are working on a proposal, regarding new policies, to be presented to the Board at a later date.
Superintendent Kirk Eidson gave the transportation report, consisting of the length of the bus routes and bus capacity.
Vocational Education reports were presented by FACS teacher, Julie Carr and Agriculture Education teacher, Duane Lentz. Course offerings were discussed for both programs as well as upcoming events.
Donna Burchell presented a report on the Gifted Program. She currently has 19 students in the elementary level. She will once again, be working with the Junior High students regarding the Duke University ACT testing and with Juniors and Seniors regarding the Fine Arts Academy and Scholars Academy. One high school student is currently attending Northwest Missouri State University.
