Police vehicle damaged in pursuit

An Adrian Police Officer who had responded on a medical call with the Adrian Fire Department was involved in a minor accident while leaving that scene to assist the Cass County Sheriff’s department in pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

Adrian Officer Trevor Willemsen, who was driving the newest Adrian patrol car, a 2008 Crown Victoria, assisted the Adrian Fire Department in response to a heart attack in the Burdette area. The time was approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11. As Willemsen was finishing up with that call, he received word that Cass County Sheriff’s deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were in pursuit of a vehicle that had been stolen out of Kansas City, Missouri.

In an attempt to assist Cass County officials, Willemsen traveled the back roads west of Adrian, one of which ended in a T-intersection. It was here, where County Road Northwest 140002 ends at County Road Northwest 9001, west of Burdette, that the patrol car hit a tree, at approximately 3:45 a.m. Willemsen received minor injuries and was transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler by private vehicle. The police car was believed to have sustained minor damage.

The four occupants of the stolen vehicle involved in the police chase were taken into custody at the railroad tracks at First and Lexington in Adrian.
