Peculiar alderman receives assault charges at Archie

The Archie Truck and Tractor Pull held Saturday, September 8, ended in a near tragedy that did leave three people injured and landed a Peculiar city alderman in trouble.

The accident occurred when Mark Wansing, 41, of Peculiar, received permission from the owner of a competition truck to get into a vehicle. He allegedly started the truck to move it when it hit the next vehicle in the line. That action created a chain reaction accident involving three vehicles in all, including a tractor which ended up on top of a 19-year-old man from Jefferson City, Missouri. That man was pinned beneath the tractor for a time, then was transported by air ambulance to a hospital.

Two other people, a small child and a woman who received a broken leg, were also transported by land ambulance to the hospital. The man and child were released from hospitals Sunday. The woman remained hospitalized late Sunday evening.

According to Archie Police Chief Shawn Thacker, Wansing was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and three counts of second degree assault.
