Opal Huffman leaves legacy
The late Opal M. Huffman, a former resident of rural Adrian, has left a lasting legacy to the Adrian School and to surrounding communities of Bates County. Prior to her death, Mrs. Huffman established a charitable trust for the purpose of providing scholarships to young people of this area for post-secondary education. On Wednesday, January 3, Trustees presented a check in the amount of $85,000 to Adrian R-3 Board Member Jim Ferguson, center, on behalf of the Adrian Education Foundation. The funds are to be used in the form of scholarships for the Adrian School District. The Huffman Charitable Trust will also offer scholarships in 2007 to deserving candidates in surrounding communities. Applications for these scholarships will be available at area high schools in late February.Pictured, left to right: Glenda Moles, Trustee; Greg Guthrie, Trustee; Mr. Jim Ferguson, Adrian R-3 board member; Lexye Schell, Trustee; and Gwaine Arney, Trustee.
