November 2006 Election
The November 7 election brought out a huge number of voters. Amendment issues and several contested races spurred the public to exercise their right.In the county sheriff's race, Incumbent Doug Mullenix, Republican, was declared the winner over the Democrat candidate Gary Martin. In another county race with competition, Donna Gregory, Democrat, received the nod for the Bates County Presiding Commissioner. She was challenged by Republican Jim Wheatley. The county courthouse tower restoration received a thumbs down as voters soundly defeated the one-half cent sales tax.The Bates County courthouse will now have a fulltime Prosecuting Attorney as voters approved the issue. Currently the position had only been parttime.
