New drop off point for newspaper recycling

Bates County Industries (BCI) has expanded its recycling program in Adrian. For about three years there has been a plastics recycling trailer at Yoss Thriftway on Business 71 Highway. Now, located next to that trailer is another one for newspapers and magazines.
It is not essential to bundle the papers but it is helpful if they are secured in some form. If bundled, the stack should be about 10 to 15 papers and tied with string. The papers can also be placed in a cardboard box or a paper sack, to make it easier to handle.
“The recycling we do here in Bates County and surrounding communities goes to employing 40 special needs adults,” said BCI Supervisor Pam Martin. She added that there are a total of 39 certified employees, three full-time staff members, two part-time staffers and herself employed at the business.
Martin said BCI also takes cardboard but right now it cannot be placed in the newspaper/magazine trailer. Plans are in the works for drop off sites in Adrian for other recyclable items, from glass to plastics to papers. In the meantime, anyone who has cardboard can call BCI for the nearest drop off point. Businesses who have either a large amount of cardboard or a continuous supply of cardboard can also call BCI for a pick up schedule.
