The 2012 AjPHA Youth World Championship Show was a milestone for many. For Colt Cumpton of Adrian, Missouri, the event held a different kind of significance. Colt took the reins as the incoming Youth president at the AjPHA National Convention during the Youth World Show. The 18-year-old has high expectations for his term. “I hope to promote and educate everyone about what they can do in AjPHA,” Colt said. “Everyone can do something. You don’t have to own a horse to be involved. The Youth association has a lot to offer. The Paint Alternative Competition program has opened up quite a few things for 4-H and FFA members.”
During his stint as AjPHA President, Colt has chosen to raise funds for Equine Services for Heroes. This is a therapeutic riding program - administered by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International - is designed specifically for veterans returning from duty, and it helps them deal with physical injuries and psychological damage through equine interaction.
In the fall, Colt plans to attend Missouri State University to major in veterinary science and minor in business. Later, he hopes to be accepted into veterinarian school. A young man with a vision for youth in and out of the saddle certainly something to look forward do. The path is clear with Colt leading the way, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
Right: Colt Cumpton is the AjPHA Youth President. He has high expectations for his term.
Far right: Attending the Youth Leadership Conference gives Colt a chance to interact with AjPHA members around the country.
