One of Adrian’s newest businesses will be holding an Open House, this coming Saturday, June 12. The business, Miss Marie’s Spiritual Scents, is located on the north side of the business district, at 40 East Main Street.

The shop’s name is a play on words with scents, designed to encourage using all five of our God-given senses- sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. And the shop is filled with items to do just that, from colorful, small crystal shapes that catch the sunlight and fills a room with rainbows, to scented candles and hand-dipped, American made incense sticks, (nothing in the shop comes from Japan or China), to jars of bulk herbs with a variety of uses ranging from cooking, teas, balms and potpourri. There are jars of many varieties of loose leaf teas from the more common, such as mint, red zinger, lemon grass, to specialty types such as heart smart and smokers teas and, there’s a special women’s corner with teas to aid in all phases of a woman’s life. The various teas can also be blended to create special teas to suit any tea lover’s taste.

There are also colorful hand made purses, sarongs and bath salts as well as little creature knitting patterns. And, in the near future, an art studio and tie-dyed clothing and accessories will be added to the shop.

The shop is owned by Sharlene Marie Henthorne and her husband, Jeff, from Raymore. It has been in operation since February, this year. “We loved the town. It was cute and with the new Casey’s and new Dollar Store, it looked like something was happening here,” Marie said.

Miss Marie’s can custom make a gift basket or customers can chose from variety of gift items at reasonable prices. There is something in the shop for everyone. There is a tea tasting center where customers can try free samples of the tea of the day. There is even a free book display where people can get books at no charge and can exchange their own unwanted books for ones at the shop. The free books are designed to promote a love of reading. “I don’t want people to think this is a girlie shop,” she said. “It isn’t. It’s for everyone, of all ages.”

Her family is involved in the shop as much as they can. Jeff, who has since found a new job, works at the shop on Saturdays. Son, Jacob helps out more, now that school is out. Twin daughters, newly graduated from high school, have jobs in Raymore, but do help on occasion.

The Open House is scheduled to run from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12. There will be free samples of tea, and drawings will be held for several prizes including crystal ornaments, bath salts, tea sampler and other things. Stop by and visit the shop during the Open House or during regular business hours on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call during business hours at 816-297-4250 or check out Miss Marie’s website at www.missmariesonline.com.
