“We’re like a big family here,” said Renee Hastings. “We’re not on a set schedule. We personalize everything, planning meals on what they like to eat. We also take them to the doctor or to the Dollar Store and things like that.”

Renee Hastings has worked at the Adrian Crystal Manor assisted living residential home for nearly two years. On August 10 of this year, she was hired by Crystal Manor owner Kelly Harbert to be the home’s new administrator. “Kelly handles the business end and I do the medicine changeovers and make sure all residents have their shots and proper medications,” Renee said. “I also admit and discharge residents and handle the day-to-day care of our residents.”

Renee is a Certified Nurse’s Aide (CAN), who was trained onsite by Louise Irvin. She is now working toward obtaining more schooling in both business and nursing.

Renee said what was most rewarding was their gratitude. “When a resident gives you a compliment, when they say they like what you are doing for them,” she explained. “We’re here for them but it means so much when they tell you, ‘good job’…when it’s a meal they especially like or it is something else you do for them.” She enjoys working with the residents at the Crystal Manor, where each is special to her in his or her own way.

Crystal Manor is located at 409 West First Street across from the Adrian Manor. For more information call, 816-297-8832.
