The need for blood is continuous

By ANNA LEE JAMES

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Adrian Tuesday, July 5 from 1-6 p.m. at the Adrian Optimist Building. We need to collect our goal of 50 units of blood as we are on the heels of a big holiday weekend. Schools are out, people are on vacation and everyone is busy; however the need for blood is continuous. Every two seconds someone needs blood. Today’s medical advancements allow patients to live longer, healthier lives. This creates a greater demand for blood products than ever before.

With less than eight percent of the population donating blood, the Red Cross continuously strives to educate the public about the importance of blood donation. Whether is a hurricane on the East Coast, a tornado in the Midwest or flooding on the West Coast, the Red Cross is ready to ship blood to hospitals in affected areas.

I know that July 4th is a big holiday. However, as we return to our daily tasks on Tuesday, July 5th, stop and donate a unit of blood for those in need. Mark that calendar so you will remember. Many can give that think they can’t. Just drop by and visit with a nurse and you will be glad you did. See you there!
