Martial Arts tournament brings hundreds to Adrian

“The ground shook on Saturday, January 31, 2009, in Adrian!” exclaimed Mike Kreitler. “It could be felt and heard all over the midwest as the Midwest Open Martial Arts Tournament was held at Adrian High School. It set attendance records for both spectators and competitors. This event was first class all the way.”
The marital arts tournament was sponsored by Kreitler Martial Arts and sanctioned by the Southwest Association of Tournaments (S.W.A.T.). Nearly 400 people crowded into the gym where 150 competitors, including 35 black belt holders from seven states took part in the highly anticipated karate action.
The Kreitler Martial Arts students who competed were: Nick Berry, Justin Berry, Jesse Blomquist, Alex Durbin, David Gonzalez, Casey Gregory, Chance Gregory, Brandon Hancock, Caroline Hilbus, Chance Hilbus, Garret Judy, Cody Kreitler, Casey Kreitler, Levi Meade, Morgan Meade, Mike McElfresh, Tristan Planz, Katy Pugh, Cierra Pugh and Matthew Smith.
“It was a really fun event,” Mike Kreitler said. “All of the kids in the tournament were very professional and it was a well controlled atmosphere. Everyone was smiling, courteous and had a great time.” He added that his students are looking forward to the upcoming events, but especially the one in October which will be held once again in Adrian.
