Mark your calendars for September 3 - Donate blood
By ANNA LEE JAMES
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Adrian Tuesday, September 3, 1-6 p.m. at the Optimist Building. Your donation makes a difference. Every two seconds someone needs blood in America. More than 38,000 pints of blood are needed in the U. S. every day. Only 38 percent of the population is eligible to donate and just a fraction of those eligible - about 8 percent - actually donate blood. Talk it up and tell your friends and family about the difference they can make by donating blood. You can donate whole blood every 56 days, up to six times per year, and double red cells every 112 days, up to three times per year. Most deferrals are temporary, not permanent. You should try again.
Prior to donating you should: get a good night’s sleep; drink plenty of fluids; eat within 2-3 hours; be sure to bring your donor card or a government issued photo ID; and if 16 years of age, parental consent. Stay healthy and I will see you Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
