Mark you calendars to give blood on July 5

By ANNA LEE JAMES

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Adrian Tuesday, July 5 from 1:00-6:00p.m. at the Adrian Optimist Building. We all know we have just come off a big three day holiday with all the fun and excitement. Hopefully ours was one without accidents. However, others won’t be so lucky and may be in need of blood. We must take an hour out of our busy schedule and donate blood -- to save a life.

You only have to be at least 17 years of age and there is no upper limit on age. If you have allergies you may donate as long as you feel well and have no problem breathing. Same goes for asthma. High blood pressure medications are acceptable as long as your blood pressure is between 80/50 and 180/100 at the time of donation. A person with a history of leukemia, lymphoma or Hodgkin’s disease, are not eligible to donate. A person with other forms of cancer may be eligible if twelve months have passed since the last treatment, with no recurrences or active disease. A person with low risk cancer (e.g., squamous or basal cell skin cancers) that have been completely removed, is eligible. A person with a precancerous condition of the uterine cervix, cervical carcinoma in-stu, that have been treated successfully may be eligible. A person who has completed antibiotic treatment for, and has recovered from sinus, throat or lung infection, may donate. Mild nasal congestion, a dry cough, or allergies are acceptable. There are many more reasons one might be able to donate. Check with the staff on the day of the donation to be sure.

Mark your calendar and leave a note where you will be reminded of Tuesday, July 5, 1:00-6:00p.m. at the Adrian Optimist Building.
