Howitzer finally arrives

In November 2006, an eight inch concrete pad was poured near the VFW shelter house at the Adrian City Park in preparation for the arrival of a M109AZ 155 self-propelled Howitzer. On Tuesday, November 27 of this year, the cannon finally arrived.

Adrian VFW Post #1935 arranged to have the cannon moved from a museum in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to the City Park as the beginning of a Veteran’s Memorial.

The Howitzer is a short, light cannon that can deliver shells with a curved trajectory at angles between 20 and 45 degrees. This particular model Howitzer was built in 1952 and was used during the Korean and Vietnam wars. The portable artillery machine is still being produced today but has undergone many changes from this earlier model.
