Construction of the new heliport is progressing when the cement for the pad and sidewalk was poured late last week (pictured right). Lighting and paint are in the next phases of the construction plan.
The heliport is a joint effort by the Adrian Optimist Club, the Adrian Lions Club, and the Adrian Volunteer Fire Department, along with help from the community. The purpose of the project is to provide better emergency services for the area.
The project is expected to cost about $7500 for everything when completed. The Optimist and Lions Clubs and the Fire Department are working together to raise the necessary funds, which to date, has fallen short of expectations.
Adrian and area residents are invited and encouraged to help with the funding for the heliport which will benefit the community in providing faster access to emergency medical aid for accident victims or those with traumatic medical emergencies. Anyone wishing to help can do so by donating qualified, tax deductible contributions to:
The Adrian Optimist Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 172, Adrian, MO, 64720, or to The Lions Club, P.O. Box 81, Adrian, MO, 64720. Be sure to write on the envelope, “For Adrian Heliport”. If you wish to donate through the Fire Department, contact Chief Gary Dizney at 816-297-4189 or 816-935-5595 for more information.
