Between the 8+ inches of snow that covered the grounds of Adrian and the record cold temperatures and wind chill, R-III students stayed home from school and citizens ventured out only if necessary since Christmas Eve. Some people needed to get out but were snowed in and were forced to stay home. On Friday and Saturday, January 8 and 9, a wind chill warning was issued by the National Weather Service. Actual temperatures were in the single digits with wind chill readings of 10 to 20 below zero.

As the Adrian Journal goes to press, Adrian students made their way to school for the first time since December 23. The following information, provided by Adrian Superintendent Kirk Eidson, explains the make-up days. The make-up days listed on the school calendar in the order they will be used are: January 18, March 12, April 30 and May 20, 21 and 24. The district is going to use Friday, January 15 as a make-up day, which will allow us to not have to use May 24 as a make-up day if we do not miss anymore school days. Dr. Eidson stated, “I plan to also ask the board at the January meeting if we could use President’s Day on February 15 as a make-up day, which would allow us not to use May 21 as a make-up day if we do not have to make up more than one more school day." State law currently requires that six days be made up and then for every two days missed Adrian R-III will have to make up one day. So far the district has missed six days, so any additional missed days will be made up on the two for one ratio.
