Give the Gift of Life - Donate Blood
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Adrian Tuesday, March 9 from 1:00pm - 6:00pm at the Optimist Building.
The snow and ice across the area has forced cancellation of numerous blood drives during January and early February. On our drive here in Adrian in early January, the weather was cold and we had ice so we did not make our goal. Meeting that goal regularly is important in helping to keep a good supply of blood on hand. Many of my regular donors didn’t want to get out or may have thought we were not open. The blood supply is at a critical level nationwide so your donation can help increase available supplies so needs can be met. It’s the blood on the shelves today that help save lives tomorrow. Every two seconds someone needs blood.
Despite the fact that giving blood is safe and easy, less than five percent of eligible donors participate. Volunteer blood donations help patients being treated for accidents, routine surgeries and serious diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma and other cancers, heart disease, sickle cell anemia and hemophilia. Everyone that is eligible needs to donate in order to meet the needs of these patients.
So, you can help. It is safe and easy and you will feel better for donating. Take care of yourself and eat iron rich foods and mark your calendar in red for March 9th.
