First big snow of the year causes problems, closes schools

Well the weather outside was not-so-delightful this week as the first snowstorm of the year hit the Midwest on Monday, January 10. The doors of area schools were closed to ensure the safety of the students. Snow plows (right) continue to work around the clock to clear the roads but are having a tough time keeping up. Far right, a car slides into the ditch at Old 71 Highway and Eighth Street.
