Family Fun on the Fourth

The Adrian Optimist Club is preparing for the annual Adrian Independence Day Celebration to take place on Saturday, July 4. There will be plenty of activities for everyone.
The full day of family fun begins at 10:30 a.m. with the popular and patriotic parade down Main Street that eventually ends at the Adrian City Park where food, fun and the major activities will take place.
This year, the Grand Marshal of the parade is Jerry “Yogi” Clark (pictured). Those wishing to participate in the parade or who want general information should contact Parade Chairman Bryan Reynolds at 816-738-1844.
The Adrian Independence Day activities in the park begin with a pork chop dinner, smoked meat and other foods at 11:30 a.m.
Among the kid activities will be a face painting booth and the return of the popular inflatable rides. This year, there will be a dozen such rides, some including water.
This year, there will not be an airplane prize drop nor will there be team ball games or sand volleyball due to lack of interest the past couple of years.
The evening’s top events include the 8th Annual Truck and Tractor Pull, and of course the giant fireworks display. For more information about the Pull, contact Brad Ferguson at 816-297-2641.
The giant fireworks display will begin at dusk, during the intermission for the truck tractor show.
For more information on any of the Independence Day activities, contact Optimist Club President Jim Binkley at 816-213-7242.
