Candidate filing begins next week

Candidate filing for the April 8, 2008 local school boards, city councils and the Bates County Hospital Board election begins next week. The filing period runs from Tuesday, December 18, 2007 to Tuesday, January 22, 2008.

Three seats are open for each of the School Boards, and each of those are for three year terms. To file, candidates should go to their school district’s Superintendent’s Office.

City Council and Mayor candidates should file at their City Halls. Adrian has open seats for mayor and one each for the North and South ward aldermen. Archie has a one year term for mayor open, to fill the position of the current mayor who recently resigned because of an out of state job-related move. The Archie City Council also has two year seats open for the East and West ward aldermen. The Drexel City Council has alderman seats open, one for each ward.

The Bates County Hospital Board also has a seat open. Filing should be with the Hospital Administrator’s office.
