Bloodmobile stops in Adrian on May 11

By ANNA LEE JAMES

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Adrian on Tuesday, May 11, from 1-6 p.m. at the Adrian Optimist Building.

Springtime is a beautiful time of the year. A time that should be enjoyed by everyone. Unfortunately, illness, treatment of disease, etc., keep some people from enjoying the fragrant and colorful outdoors. Many will undergo treatment for diseases like leukemia, aplastic anemia, and cancer; all requiring transfusion of large amount of blood products called platelets. Platelets are a tiny component which is found in blood, that allows for the formation of clotting. These blood products can often mean the difference between life and death.

Every time you give blood someone benefits. Your one blood donation can be separated into several different components that may benefit up to four different patients. Giving blood only takes about an hour and can mean a lifetime to someone in need. Research shows that blood donors tend to be more altruistic, sociable active, optimistic, non-traditional adventurous, and weight-conscious. So mark your calendars now for May 11 and spend an hour with other donors, helping all those unable to share the joy of springtime in our community.Tuesday, May 11, 2010, 1 - 6 p.m., at the Adrian Optimist Building.
