Blackhawks win district title

By HENRY WENDLETON
The Adrian boys once again faced the Archie Whirlwinds for the district championship game. The Blackhawks already played Archie four times this season with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss. Adrian was the number one seed in the tournament and Archie was the number two. The boys came out ready to play in the first quarter. Every shot they took went in the basket, no matter where it was from. The Whirlwinds started cutting away at the Blackhawks lead, but after three quarters Adrian still led, 58-45. Adrian was back on track in the fourth and played lockdown defense, only allowing the Whirlwinds four points. The Blackhawks went on to win big, with a final score of 73-49.
This win pushes Adrian’s record to 25 wins and 3 losses. With this win, the Blackhawks claimed the District title and they will advance to Sectionals on March 11, 2009.
Adrian Head Coach James Wheeler commented, “I’m really proud of our boys. We had a good, balanced attack. Also, I want to thank our crowd, who showed up in full force. They really make a difference. What a fun environment for our team to play in front of.” Wheeler went on to say, “We made some offensive changes this year, and the boys really bought into it. The changes fit their style of play and their athletic ability.”
Head Coach Wheeler congratulates the entire team for its efforts in winning the title, and offers special recognition to the team veterans. “We’ve had great senior leadership this season. Kyle Knuth and Josh Hubbard have played all four years, and Chris Schaller joined us this year. They have provided invaluable leadership to this team.”
