Bates County voters exercise their right

The 2008 General Election was held Tuesday, November 4. Bates County voters turned out in record number to exercise their freedom of choice by voting for the United States President and Vice President, as well as many other key offices and issues. While the national results are still tight at press time, the local races have been tabulated unofficially.
John McCain and Sarah Palin received the most votes in Bates County. For Governor, Bates County residents voted for Jeremiah W. (Jay) Nixon. At the county level, Larry Berry and Randy Pike were elected for Bates County Southern and Northern Commissioners, respectively. Chad Anderson was voted in as Sheriff, and Jim (Jimmy) Platt was elected as the Collector/Treasurer. Unopposed Sharon Cumpton was re-elected as the Public Administrator. Gary Schowengerdt was elected for Coroner, and William Lethcho for Surveyor. Barney Fisher was elected as State Representative for District 125 and Scott Largent, State Representative, for District 120.
