Bates County suicide attempt leads to critical injuries
Sunday, November 26, Sheriff Doug Mullenix, Bates County deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, responded to a business on Route 4, Butler, in reference to a suicidal subject, at that location.The first deputies arriving on the scene observed a male subject seated in a chair, in the office, holding what appeared to be a rifle. As the deputies attempted to make verbal contact, they saw the man discharge the rifle, with the shot striking the subject in the face.A short time later a second shot was heard and the man exited the office, going into another part of the business.After a short stand off, Mullenix and other law enforcement officers, entered the business where they found the man suffering from self-inflicted gun shot wounds to his face and head.The man, identified as Trevor L. Webb, 19, of rural Butler, was airlifted from the scene to the Research Main Hospital in Kansas City with critical injuries.
