Bates County Sheriff’s Office installs new equipment

The Bates County Sheriff’s Office recently installed Cold Fire Extinguishers in all patrol cars as an added way to protect and serve. On September 14, 2011, Ed McFadden, a Cold Fire representative, conducted a demonstration at the Bates County Fairgrounds for area law enforcement, fire departments, EMS workers, and others to show how the extinguishers can be one of many life saving tools. In particular, McFadden talked about ways the extinguisher would be beneficial in traffic-related emergencies.
Cold Fire extinguishers are more effective than dry chemical extinguishers on all types of automobile fires. As the extinguisher puts out a fire, it also cools the surface. If emergency personnel are trying to open the door of a burning vehicle to rescue someone inside, Cold Fire will allow them to quickly open the door. Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson said, “The Department purchased Cold Fire extinguishers for all of our patrol cars. In a rural area time is of the essence. That time may save a life.”
Right: McFadden douses two tires with gasoline, then extinguishes the burning rubber with a Cold Fire extinguisher.
Far right: Ed McFadden sprays a hand towel with Cold Fire, then uses burning magnesium to show that it did not burn him.
