Bates County mourns the loss of Southern Commissioner Larry Berry

A Hume, Missouri man was fatally injured and two other men injured, one seriously, in a two vehicle accident in Bates County, Thursday, July 3, 2014. The accident occurred at 10:11pm on Route A, .3 miles south of SW County Road 14267 near Hume.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a southbound 1995 GMC Sierra, driven by Wesley M. Hayes, 26, of Pleasanton, Kansas, crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2005 Ford Taurus head-on, driven by Larry L. Berry, 65, of Hume. Berry, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported by the Bates County EMS to Mercy Hospital in Ft. Scott, Kansas where he was pronounced deceased by Dr. Marc Enyart.
