Bates County burglary suspect in custody
By BATES COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
On the 30th day of November, 2010, the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of burglary. The Sheriff’s Office has been working an unusually high amount of burglaries since November 1. In many of the burglaries the same method of entry was used and many similarities became relevant. On November 30 the Sheriff’s Office took reports of seven burglaries in Bates County. After deputies performed area canvasses of the burglaries, they began to receive information from neighbors of a white blazer with loud exhaust being in the area at the time of the burglaries.
At approximately 4:30 on November 30 the Sheriff’s Office put out information to surrounding agencies of the suspect. The vehicle was stopped just north of 52 Highway on 71 Highway where suspect Jeffrey C Boatman of Garden City and a female passenger were taken into custody. Boatman was transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office received consent to search the vehicle. During the search multiple items were recovered that had been taken from at least three burglaries.
While the Bates County Sheriff’s Office is confident Boatman was involved in a majority of those burglaries, Boatman has only been charged with two burglaries in Bates County. Boatman has been charged with Burglary 2nd Degree and Stealing. His bond has been set at $100,000.00 cash only.
