Are you proud to be a Blackhawk? Yes we are!
The Adrian Blackhawks football season kicked off with a blowout victory over the Butler Bears. In a tight matchup against Drexel last week, the Blackhawks held on until the end but fell just two points short of the victory. These two games were a thrill to watch, and the pride of the Blackhawks couldn’t have been any stronger. The student section took on a renewed sense of Blackhawk Pride as they cheered on their team.
First year Adrian Student Council Advisor Jessie McWilliams said that during the first STUCO meeting the students made it very clear that something needed to be done in order to restore that energetic feeling at our sporting events. Jessie said, “As representatives for the entire student body, the student council members felt like this should be their priority. We can’t let that Blackhawk Pride slip away!”
The Adrian Student Council has taken on the task of building up Blackhawk Pride within our school and community. They will be purchasing several different “spirit” items for these events. STUCO is also starting a new monthly program in order to build school spirit. This monthly contest will be the STUDENT FAN OF THE MONTH award which will be voted on by the Adrian staff. The student who wins this honor will be given a prize pack and will also have their photo posted in the hallway.
DID YOU KNOW?
Linda Zellmer, a retired Blackhawk teacher, said that the phrase “Blackhawk Pride” was coined by Wallace Hendrickson, a beloved retired Elementary Principal. Linda said, “He is what pride in the school is all about. Jame, his grandson, was and will always be a Blackhawk.”
