On February 23-24, AHS student Haley Bass (pictured) participated in a Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Missouri only Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) event called “Legislative Job Shadowing”. Legislative Job Shadowing is a project in which 11th and 12th grade FCCLA members may participate.

Haley was assigned to shadow Representative Barney Fisher, who represents the 125th District in Jefferson City. Also on the 23rd, Haley and Mrs. Carr were able to tour the Capital Building and the Governor’s Mansion. However, the real fun began on the 24th, when Haley met up with Representative Fisher. He had someone who took her to the top of the capitol into the Whispering Gallery and to the top of the capitol outside. Representative Fisher also let her sit in on the house floor meetings and on his committee hearings, where he got a bill passed. Haley also became an official page of the day, without pay, and was introduced on the House floor, where they had official pictures taken. Haley had a blast rooming with her new friends and getting to know more about Missouri’s history and government.
