Adrian R-III reflects on last year, prepares for this year

By MICHELE BURRIS
Adrian R-III continues to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year. The first day of school is Thursday, August 19 at 8:10am. Students will come back to school with freshly waxed floors and a refurbished west gym floor. Lights have been changed, everything has been sanitized, and many tasks have been completed in preparation for the students’ return.
For Adrian R-III, one of the biggest changes for the 2010-2011 school year is the introduction of middle school. Principal Chris Shanks will lead a student/parent orientation on August 12 at 6:30pm in the commons area to explain the reasons for changes and answer questions.
Both Principal Shanks and Elementary Principal Brian Borgmeyer are excited about the MAP testing results from last school year. The district’s scores are the highest ever for Adrian in the proficient and advanced levels. Both principals are enthused about the district’s academic success. Shanks said, “I am excited about our students’ academic progress. It is important that the parents, kids and staff are working together. It shows.”
