Adrian Police Department is here to stay
Rumors squelched by the Adrian Mayor and City Council
The July 13 regular meeting of the Adrian City Council was called to order by Mayor Larry Ritter. Aldermen Mike Lemon, Danny Ferguson, Sue Miller and Bob Hess were present. Also present were City Attorney Cindy Warner, City Administrator Lori Williams and City Clerk Melisa Newkirk. More than 50 guests attended the meeting. The meeting room was full, and many were present who stood in the hallway outside of the room.
Mayor Ritter stated that the discussion about law enforcement services in Adrian would begin with Adrian police officers, followed by Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson, himself, City Council members and guests. Mayor Ritter told Sheriff Anderson that the Council was not interested in his proposal. He thanked Chad for the offer, but the citizens of Adrian do not support this type of change. The City wants to continue its cooperative efforts with the Sheriff’s Department. Anderson agreed. He said, “The Bates County Sheriff’s Department is here for Adrian yesterday, today and tomorrow.”
