Adrian firefighters help kids with MD at camp

Seven members of the Adrian Volunteer Fire Department traveled to Linwood, Kansas where they participated for a day in a summer camp for kids with Muscular Dystrophy.
The crew not only participated in a parade of fire trucks, they also assisted the kids with games and lots of other fun activities. The games included a number of water-related ones as well as relays, such as the one in which Adrian Firefighter Mark Ortiz took part. Ortiz and fellow firefighters donned plastic trash bags onto which the child participants attached cheese crackers. The fire fighter then had to run from one location and back again without losing any of the crackers. The kids also got to play on the fire equipment and wear some firefighter gear.
“We spent a lot of good, quality time with the kids,” Chief Dizney said. “To pick up a child out of a wheelchair and set him or her onto a fire truck and then see all those big sunny smiles was wonderful!”
