Adrian Fire Department - look what’s coming up...

The Adrian Volunteer Fire Department is gearing up for three upcoming events, the first of which will occur this weekend.
The firefighters will be holding their annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Boot Block over the Labor Day weekend. As in the past, they will be setting up the block at the intersection of U.S. 71 Highway and Missouri Highway 18, beginning at 4:00p.m. on Friday, September 4, all day Saturday, September 5 and possibly Sunday, September 6 in the afternoon after Adrian church services end. “We are scheduled to be on the MDA KCTV-5 program on Monday, September 7 at approximately 2:10pm,” said Fire Chief Gary Dizney. “That’s when we will be presenting the Adrian contribution check.”

Every year, for the past seven years, the Adrian Fire Department has sponsored a special 9-11 memorial parade that will take place on Friday, September 11, Patriot Day.

“This event will be held, rain or shine,” Chief Dizney said. He added that the parade route will be the same as the Independence Day parade, beginning at the Adrian Manor, then proceeding down Clark Street to Main Street. The estimated time on Main Street will be about 6:40-6:45 p.m. The route then goes down Main Street to Old 71 Highway, then south to the Optimist Building at Co-op Road and Old 71 Highway.

Representatives from the military, other area police and fire departments and other branches of emergency services will be a part of the processional. Also, the Life Flight and Med Flight air ambulances will take part in the program at 7:00 p.m. on the Adrian Optimist Building grounds. “We hope everyone will be on hand to watch the parade and then come to the program,” Chief Dizney said.

The other event is the October Fire Safety Month during which time the Adrian firefighters go to schools and daycare centers to discuss fire safety with children. Any preschool or daycare wishing to have a visit from the fire department needs to contact Chief Dizney at 816-297-4189 no later than Monday, October 5.
