Adrian Community Library named Business of the Month

By SHARON KIESEL
The Adrian Chamber of Commerce’s featured business for October is the Adrian Community Library, located at 116 East Main Street. The library was established in March of 2004, the result of a two year plan turned into reality.
“We’re a non-profit, private library and are not affiliated with any other library,” said Jeannette Emerson, Co-President of the Library Board. “Most of our 5000, almost 6000 books have been donated by the community.”
The Library offers patrons the thousands of books from which to read, but many people may not realize there are several on-going classes offered at the Library as well. Current classes include knitting and computer classes. There is also a book club. The newest offering is the Wi-Fi service where patrons can bring their laptops in and take advantage of the Library’s high speed internet service.
Another feature is the Story Hour program. Melinda Elmer provides a story hour presentation for the Head Start kids and she has done the same for other pre-schools as well.
A book rental program is also available in which you can check out best seller books for two weeks for $1.00 each. All the money earned from the rentals goes right back into the program in order to purchase new best sellers.
Adrian Community Library patrons are assisted by around 10 volunteer librarians who work the weekly open hours. The Library is open Mondays from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m. The Library is also open on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..
The Library is still taking donations and books. The books must be dated 2000 or newer. For more information call the Library at 816-297-2105.
