Adrian Community Chest reactivated

By SHARON KIESEL

Many years ago, Adrian, as did many other communities, had a Community Chest. The purpose of the community chest was to provide funding for local civic groups and organizations in various community betterment and charitable endeavors. Adrian’s Community Chest went dormant for several years, primarily because the main source of funding came from the United Way foundation and when they revamped their program, they no longer funded in name only entities.

“I called the United Way and was told about the revamping process,” Alan Marr said. “I then took it upon myself to contact several people who might be interested in being on the Board of Directors and to have a corporation and a tax exempt organization.”

Alan said Judy Ball, Jerry Ferguson, Donna Hubbard and David Veit worked for about two years to make it possible for the Community Chest to get funding and meet all the state and federal requirements. Attorney Max Gordon provided the legal services to incorporate the Community Chest and Alan said that David Veit provided services to get the IRS/tax exempt status.

Since the reorganization and reactivation, David Veit has moved out of the area and Joey Bailey has replaced him. The Board met last week and they feel that everything is in position now to be able to move forward. “We look forward to working with other organizations in the community to provide funds to meet needs,” Marr said.

Any organization seeking to use Adrian Community Chest Inc. funds should send a brief outline of how requested funds would be used. The Board will then review the request and all board members will vote on whether or not to accept the request. All requests must be made through an established and recognized local organization. Funds cannot go to benefit individuals.

To request funding, send a brief outline of the proposed use, or for more information or to donate funds, write to the Adrian Community Chest, Inc., Post Office Box 241, Adrian, Missouri 64720.
