10 Years - 9/11 We Remember
By SHARON KIESEL
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on U.S. soil when 3,000 people died as they went about their daily lives that sunny Tuesday morning.
This year, the Adrian Fire Department will once again host a special memorial service to honor our military, the emergency workers and civilians who lost their lives that day. The event begins at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 11 with the processional of personnel and equipment from many fire, police, ambulance, emergency management and military representation. During the processional, the Life Flight Air Ambulance out of Harrisonville will be making a fly over of the parade route then land at the heliport on the Optimist Building grounds.
At the Optimist Building, a special 10th anniversary program has been planned with guest speakers Mark Lopez, the Garden City Fire Chief who will speak on behalf of emergency services and Brian Miller, from the Overland Park, Kansas area who will speak on behalf of veterans and the military.
“We have always had good support from the public and we really appreciate that,” said Fire Chief Gary Dizney. “We encourage everyone to come out, line the streets for the processional then join us at the Optimist Building for the program to show support for the military and emergency workers and to remember and honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. There’s plenty of room for everyone so please join us for the memorial service.”
