Nail-biting win sends AHS Blackhawks to Quarterfinals

By HENRY WENDLETON
The Adrian Blackhawks took on Southeast Charter from Kansas City in the Sectionals match-up last Wednesday night in Harrisonville. Adrian came out looking good and quickly jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Blackhawks then went cold and allowed Southeast to go on a huge 17-point run. The Blackhawks never gave up. They came on strong in the fourth quarter and started cutting away at the lead Southeast had generated. With 10 seconds on the clock, the crowd erupted as the 3 pointer tied game. Southeast tried a long shot but it fell way short and the game went into overtime. The Blackhawks were so fired up from the comeback that they refused to lose. They went on to a 73-72 victory.
This win pushes Adrian’s record to 26 wins and 3 losses on the year. Adrian Coach James Wheeler commented, “This was probably the best game I have ever been a part of. What an environment! Our boys showed a lot of pride and passion to come back from so far down. I am really proud of them.”
The sectional win advanced Adrian to the quarterfinals which will be held Saturday at Missouri State University in Springfield.
