Lady Blackhawks take second in 25th annual Midway Tournament

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks, seeded 2nd, opened the Midway Tournament on Tuesday, February 8 against the Barstow Lady Knights. Adrian scored a 58 to 37 victory to move their overall record to 11 and 3.
In the second round of tournament play the Lady Blackhawks played the Lady Mules of Lone Jack. Both teams displayed a sluggish first half as neither team could find the basket. The score was tied at halftime 10 to 10. In the second half of play Adrian managed to find some strength as they outscored Lone Jack 27 to 24 to escape with the 37 to 34 victory. The win put them in the championship game, once again, against the Archie Lady Whirlwinds on Saturday night.
Coach Dingman commented, “It was a slow start as neither team was shooting the ball well. The third quarter we found some energy and went ahead in the game.”
In the championship game it was once again a show down against the Adrian Lady Blackhawks and the Archie Lady Whirlwinds. These two teams had met the last two Saturdays and this one would prove to be no different than the others as it was close to the end. At the final buzzer it was the Lady Whirlwinds on top by 6, 52 to 46.
Coach Dingman said, “It was a fast start followed by a tight game the rest of the way. These two teams have met the last three Saturdays in a row and it shows how evenly matched they truly are. One game some of their players might be down and in the other some of my players may be down. These two teams left it on the floor. We didn’t play very well in the second half and Archie was able to keep their offense going. Archie didn’t miss a free throw (12-12) and that makes it hard to beat a team when they make their free ones throughout the game.”
