Lady Blackhawks take 5th in Truman Lake Tournament

The Lady Blackhawks softball team had a busy week. On Tuesday, April 21 they hosted the Ballard Lady Bulldogs. Adrian won the contest 11-0. Kristy Ray was the winning pitcher.
Coach Hubbard said, “This was a good solid team performance from everyone. We hit the ball well and only had 1 defensive error.
On Thursday Adrian hosted Jayhawk-Linn and lost 17 - 2. Makenzi Adams was the losing pitcher. Coach Hubbard commented on the game, “Jayhawk-Linn has a good team. That, combined with our 1 hit and 6 errors meant disaster for us. We will make mistakes but we need to learn from them and go on to get better. I believe we will. We have a good bunch of girls that won’t give up. We are having a good, fun year so far.”
Friday and Saturday the Lady Blackhawks participated in the Truman Lake Tournament at Clinton. In the first game they played LaMonte and won 12 to 1. Makenzi Adams was the winning pitcher. “This was a good way to get started in the tournament. The girls played well together. Katy Gray did an excellent job behind the plate catching” said Coach Hubbard.
In game two on Friday the girls were defeated 6 to 2 by Harrisonviile. Coach Hubbard said, “The time limit hurt us this game. We tied the game in the top half of the 6th at 6-6 but the time ran out in the bottom half and the rules say you go back to the last full inning, in which we were behind 2-6. We didn’t start hitting the ball until late in the game and it hurt not getting to complete the full game. But the girls did come back and play well.”
Game 3 was against Sherwood. It was a close game but the Blackhawks came up short, 4 to 3. Kaley Keating pitched the full 5 innings. “Time limit hurt us again along with untimely errors. We struggled on offense and defense during the first game on Saturday. Becca and Kaley both had a couple of big hits to help us” commented Coach Hubbard.
In game four of the tournament, Adrian defeated Leeton 7 to 1. Makenzi Adams was the winning pitcher. Coach Hubbard said, “The girls did an excellent job recovering from an earlier loss and coming back to play a great game. It was avery good team win.”
In the final game of the tournament for the Lady Blackhawks, they took on Osceola and scored a 15-0 victory. They placed 5th with a 3-2 record. Makenzi Adams was the winning pitcher. “This was a great way to end the tournament” stated Coach Hubbard. “The starting 9 all scored at least 1 point. Everyone got to play in the tournament. It was a good experience for us all and I am very proud of the way the girls played this weekend”
