Last week saw volleyball players from around the area traveling to the annual Archie Invitational Tournament. Among the competing teams were our very own Lady Blackhawks, who were anxious to redeem themselves based on last year’s performance.

As the girls boarded the bus on Tuesday, the anticipation level was high (as was the volume of the singing). Hume won the first game 25-21, while Adrian took the next 25-22. Thursday night proved to be more of a success than the first when the Blackhawks proudly beat Drexel and Butler in the same night.

Saturday brought players, coaches, and fans once again to Archie for the final day of the tournament. They defeated Miami first in a quick, painless game by 10 points in the first game and 11 in the second. With hopes high, they played Archie next. Although the girls gave it a good try, they went down in three games. The same thing happened against Drexel in the game for third place, and so, with a normal amount of disappointment, the girls settled for fourth.

“Our placing didn’t turn out like we wanted, but we played very well. We played as a team,” said Coach Carver. “It was a good tournament to start with, and I’m really excited to see what the rest of the season holds for us.”

Let’s go Blackhawks!
